ACADEMIC PROGRAM

 

This program has a joint focus on language and culture, allowing the student to develop and improve his/ her linguistic skills while enjoying an introduction to the major topics of Spanish culture. In addition to the Spanish language class, classes are available in Spanish history, Spanish literature, history of Spanish art, I slamic culture, and more.

This program involves 4 or 5 hours of class a day. Students may choose to take a 40 contact hour language course along with 3 (20 contact hour) cultural electives, or substitute one cultural elective for a 10 hour Spanish conversation course for a total of 90-100 contact hours (6 semester credits). Alternatively, students may elect to forgo the Spanish language course and take 4-5 (20 contact hour) cultural electives (or substitute one of those electives with the 10 hour Spanish conversation course) for 80-100 contact hours (5-6 semester credits).

Students must take a placement test beforehand to show that they have an Intermediate level (European Framework level B1.1) of Spanish (or above). These courses are offered at three levels: Intermediate, Advanced and Superior (Granada levels B1.1, B1.2, B2.1, B2.2, C1 and C2). Students who do not place high
